Transformer

A transformer is a static electrical device that uses the principle of electromagnetic induction to convert AC voltage, transmit electrical energy, and distribute power. It is an indispensable foundational component in modern power systems. From power plants to factory floors, and from urban grids to remote construction sites, transformers perform the core tasks of step-up transmission, step-up distribution, and electrical isolation.

Among the many types of industrial equipment, transformers stand out for their extremely high operational reliability. As static devices with no rotating parts, they experience far fewer mechanical failures than rotating machinery such as motors or generators, and under normal maintenance conditions, they can operate stably for 20 to 30 years or more. Another key advantage is their exceptional efficiency: large power transformers can achieve efficiency levels of over 99%, producing only minimal no-load and load losses, which makes them highly economical over long-term operation.Transformers are available in a vast range of capacities—from small control transformers rated at a few hundred volt-amperes to ultra-high-voltage power transformers rated at millions of kilovolt-amperes—capable of meeting every need from household appliances to national power grids. Furthermore, transformers provide natural electrical isolation. There is only a magnetic connection between the primary and secondary windings, with no direct electrical link. This effectively blocks harmonic interference and surge impacts from the grid, protecting sensitive downstream equipment. With the help of on-load or off-load tap changers, transformers can adjust their output voltage within a certain range, adapting to grid fluctuations and load changes to ensure stable power quality. Finally, transformer manufacturing technology is highly mature, and well-established design, testing, and energy efficiency standards are available both domestically and internationally. This makes selection straightforward, maintenance costs low, and spare parts widely interchangeable. As a result, transformers remain one of the most actively traded categories of power equipment in global trade.

Thanks to their reliability, efficiency, flexibility, and safety, transformers act as the "heart" of electrical energy transmission and distribution—both in traditional power systems and in renewable energy applications. They are an irreplaceable piece of key equipment in the modern industrial electrification process.
